Daniel Yergin is an American author, speaker, energy expert, and economic historian born on February 6, 1947. S&P Global vice chairman Yergin serves on the firm's board of directors. Formerly, he was vice chairman of IHS Markit, which merged with S&P in 2022. In addition, he founded Cambridge Energy Research Associates, which was acquired by IHS Markit in 2004.
Daniel Yergin Career:
• His doctoral dissertation inspired him to write Shattered Peace: The Origins of the Cold War and the National Security State (1977). The National Historical Society named it "best book of the year."

• Daniel Yergin founded Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) with Jamey Rosenfield in 1982 using a $2 Salvation Army file cabinet. Energy research and consulting firm Yergin & Company was created as a "quasi think tank and source of energy industry analysis" with Yergin as president.

• Daniel Yergin and former Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz authored the 229-page study, Advancing the Landscape of Clean Energy Innovation, for the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, led by Bill Gates.

• Daniel Yergin was appointed vice chairman of S&P Global during the merger with IHS Markit. He became vice chairman of IHS in 2012 and remained vice chairman at the time of IHS' merger with Markit in 2016. A member of the S&P Energy Group, he is also the chairman of the annual CERAWeek conference.

• Daniel Yergin recently participated in a business forum composed primarily of CEOs assembled to offer President Trump economic and policy advice. It was disbanded in August 2017.
