Meghan Abbott was born on August 21, 1971, and is an author of hardboiled crime fiction and non-fiction analyses of hardboiled crime fiction. Megan, who was born and raised in the Detroit area, is an Edgar Award-winning crime writer. Prior to receiving her Ph.D. in English and American literature from New York University, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Abbott has taught at the New School, SUNY, and NY. She was chosen to serve as the University of Mississippi's John and Renée Grisham Writer-in-Residence in 2013. She is a television producer and writer from the United States.
Career:
Abbott is renowned for his dark, frequently noir-style books. Dare me, her breakout thriller from 2012, took an uncompromising look at the competitive high school cheerleading culture, and several of her 11 previous books are based on infamous crimes from earlier decades. Her books and short tales have included and recreated well-known crime fiction subgenres from a female perspective.
Eight books, including The Fever, You Will Know Me, and the Edgar Award-winning Queenpin, have been written by Megan Abbott. She also edited the anthology A Hell of a Woman, which features female crime writers, and is the author of The Street Was Mine, a study of noir and hard-boiled literature. She graduated from New York University with a Ph.D. in literature.
