About (Profile/Biography):
Nora Roberts, a well-known American romance novelist, was born in Maryland. Nora considers herself "an Irish woman through and through" because her parents are of Irish descent. Nora recalls having a love of reading from her early years. Because her family has always been avid readers, Nora had a lifelong affinity with writing, which she adorably embraced.
Career:
By the time Nora's first book, Irish Thoroughbred, was released in 1981, she had already received a number of rejections and had three years of experience.
Nora produced 23 novels between 1982 and 1984. Despite writing many books, Nora didn't become well-known until 1985, when "Playing the Odds," the first book in her bestselling romantic trilogy, entered the market.
The book was an immediate hit, and Nora gained much recognition among romance lovers. The change from normal eighteen-year-old heroines and shallow masculine portrayals to more realistic approaches in romantic novels was largely due to Nora.
Nora's years of expertise in the love genre have given her the skills to develop more lifelike characters.
The romantic novelist Janet Dailey, who she sued and admitted plagiarising, was also a victim of her work.
Achievements and Awards:
Four of the five best-selling romantic books reported by USA Today in 1999 and 2000 were written by Nora.
Between 1991 and 2001, the New York Times ranked 68 of her books as best sellers. Two of her novels, Sanctuary and Magic Moments, were made into movies.
Unknown facts:
After being married, she spent most of her time at home crafting with her sons. She calls those years in her life "Earth Mother years."
