About (Profile/Biography):
Norman Bridwell is a well-known author who was born on February 15, 1928 and died on December 12, 2014. There have been over 120 books written by Norman Bridwell on "Clifford the Big Red Dog," one of the most beloved children's books ever written. The average number of books he writes each year is two, and he continues to do so. One of his critics told him that he could have written a story to accompany his illustrations of Clifford in order to help sell those illustrations more effectively after he was told that his illustrations were too ordinary. Having written a story, he submitted it to a publisher for consideration. As soon as three weeks passed, the publisher contacted him and said they were interested in publishing his book. In spite of being published over 40 years ago, Clifford "the Big Red Dog" continues to "grow" with books, television shows, and movies!
1960s: Bridwell tried to find work as an illustrator for children during the early 1960s, but was unable to find any work.
1963: Clifford the Big Red Dog was Clifford's story and was edited by one of the editors who he visited, so he decided to write and illustrate it himself. Clifford the Big Red Dog was published.
1966: There were many stories that Bridwell wrote about Clifford, including Clifford Takes a Trip, which was a compilation of those stories.
1975: Clifford’s Good Deeds
1985: Clifford and the Grouchy Neighbors
1994: Clifford the Firehouse Dog
1999: Clifford and the Halloween Parade
2002: Clifford Goes to Dog School
In 13 different languages, more than 129 million copies of Clifford's various books have been sold in the past few decades.
Unknown fact:
The books that he has written have been published in numerous languages and are available for children all over the world in over 44 million copies.
In Edgartown, Massachusetts, Bridwell passed away at the age of 86, after suffering from heart failure, on December 12, 2014.
