The novels of Robert Ludlum usually feature one heroic individual, or a small group of crusading characters, facing powerful adversaries whose intentions and motives are evil. His writings depict a world in which global corporations, shadowy military forces, and governmental organizations conspire to maintain (if it's evil) or undermine (if it's lawful).

After recovering from severe burns caused by a mysterious fire that occurred on February 10, 2001, Ludlum passed away from a heart attack on March 12, 2001.
