Roy Levesta Jones Jr. was a professional boxer who represented the United States and was also a citizen of Russia. From 1989 to 2018, he competed in boxing as a light middleweight and a heavyweight, becoming the only boxer to do so. As a super middleweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight championship holder, he held multiple world titles in four weight classes. As an amateur boxer at the 1988 Summer Olympics, he won a silver medal in light middleweight after one of boxing's most contentious decisions. His unification of the titles of the WBA, WBC, and IBF made him the undisputed light heavyweight champ in 1999.
Career:
In 1988: His silver medal at the Seoul Olympics was his first as a member of the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team.
In 1989: Jones made his professional debut in Pensacola at the Bayfront Auditorium, where he defeated Ricky Randall in two rounds.
In 1995: Jones successfully defended his super middleweight championship several times.
In 1996: Jones kept winning by knocking out Merqui Sosa in round 2 and Eric Lucas in round 11.
In 2013: At the Dynamo Palace of Sports in Krylatskoye in Moscow, Russia, Jones won the vacant WBU cruiserweight title by unanimous decision over Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf (17-3-1, 8 KOs).
