Jerry Michael Reinsdorf was born on February 25, 1936. He owns the NBA's Chicago Bulls and MLB's Chicago White Sox. Initially, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a tax attorney. It has been over 35 years since he became the owner of the White Sox and Bulls. He was estimated to have a net worth of $1.7 billion as of November 2021. He made his first fortune when the Supreme Court decided Frank Lyon Co. v. United States, allowing economic property owners to sell properties and lease them back while transferring depreciation tax deductions to title owners.

Jerry Reinsdorfworked as a tax delinquency attorney for White Sox owner Bill Veeck after graduating from Northwestern in 1960. He entered private practice in 1964. He specialized in real estate partnership tax shelters. In 1973, he sold his business interests in the real estate partnership and formed Balcor, which raised US$650 million to invest in new buildings.
Balcor was sold to Shearson Lehman Brothers, an American Express investment bank and brokerage firm, for $102 million in 1982. He remained the company's President for several years after that.
