John Carl Malone was born on March 7, 1941. He is a billionaire businessman, landowner, and philanthropist. He was the chief executive officer of Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) from 1973 to 1996. His ownership of Lionsgate, Starz, and Liberty Media (formerly Liberty Interactive) now makes him the largest shareholder and chairman of Liberty Media, Liberty Global, and Qurate Retail Group (formerly Liberty Interactive). He served as interim CEO of Liberty Media until Greg Maffei succeeded him. Malone owns upwards of 2.2 million acres (3,437 square miles), more than twice the size of Rhode Island, the second largest private landowner in the country.
