Kenneth Irvine Chenault is a manager in the American business world. From 2001 to 2018, he served as the CEO and Chairman of American Express. He is the third African American to lead a Fortune 500 corporation. As of January 2014, the senior Chenault passed the New York State dental examination with the best score ever registered. Chenault belongs to the fraternity Phi Beta Sigma. Kenneth Chenault was the senior class president at the Waldorf School of Garden City. Having graduated from Bowdoin College in 1973 with a B.A. in history, he then earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1976.

In 1977: He began his career in New York City with Rogers & Wells, a law firm.

In 2007: Chenault was a participant in the Council on Foreign Relations and the Management Roundtable Executive Committee.

In 2010: He addressed the commencement ceremonies of Wake Forest University and Northeastern University.

In 2017: He declared he will step down as the company's chairman and CEO on February 1, 2018.

In 2018: Chenault joined Airbnb's board of directors and was named chair and managing director of General Catalyst Partners.

In 1995: Chenault was named in Ebony magazine as one of fifty "living pioneers" in the African-American community.

In 2010: Chenault received the Third Lantern Award from the Old North Foundation in recognition of his devotion and commitment to public service.

In 2019: He was chosen to serve on the Board of Governors of the NCAA.
