In July 2012, Mayer was appointed Yahoo's president and chief executive officer. In January 2017, she stepped down as a director after Yahoo's operating business was sold to Verizon Communications for $4.8 billion.

In 1999: Marissa Mayer became Google's 20th employee. She wrote code and managed small engineering teams while developing and designing Google's search products.
From 2010 to 2011: Mayer served as Google's vice president for Search Products and User Experience.
The following day, Mayer became Yahoo's CEO and president. Besides being a company director, she was also a member of its board.
On May 20, 2013: Mayer led Yahoo's acquisition of Tumblr, for $1.1 billion.
In 2017: Mayer left Yahoo to start Sunshine (formerly Lumi Labs) with his former colleague Enrique Munoz Torres.
