Ursula Burns was born on September 20, 1958 in the United States. She has been CEO since 2009 and former chairman since 2010. Many people are inspired by her life. As a single mother, she raised Ursula in the Baruch Houses in New York City. Originally from Panamania, her parents immigrated to the United States. Cathedral High School was located on East 56th Street in New York. As a graduate of NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, she graduated in mechanical engineering in 1980. Her post-graduation at Columbia University in Mechanical Engineering followed a year later.
Career:
In 1980: After completing her master's degree, Burns joined Xerox as a permanent employee.
In 1990: When Wayland Hicks, then a senior executive, offered Burns a job as his executive assistant, her career took an unexpected turn.
Her first position was as executive assistant to Paul Allaire, chairman and chief executive officer.
In 2007: Burns became Xerox's president. It was in July 2009 that she was appointed CEO, succeeding Mulcahy, who remained chairman until May 2010.
In 2009: Burns was appointed to lead the White House National STEM program in 2009 by President Barack Obama
In 2010: Burns was appointed vice chair of the President's Export Council by President Obama in March 2010
In 2017: VEON elected Burns chairman in July 2017.
