Donna Karan is a fashion designer from America and the brains behind the Donna Karan and DKNY apparel brands. Karan's mother reared her and her older sister Gail in Woodmere, a neighbourhood in the Five Towns section of Nassau County, New York. In high school, Donna enjoyed playing basketball, volleyball, and softball. She also skipped courses and spent a lot of time in the art department. She attended the Parsons School of Design after graduating from Hewlett High School in 1966.Karan has homes in New York City and the Turks and Caicos Islands in addition to her current residence in Northwest Harbor (East Hampton), New York.
Career:
In 1960s: She began her career with Anne Klein as an assistant designer.
In 1973: Karan volunteered to participate in The Battle of Versailles Fashion Show as Klein's assistant.
In 1992: One year after the release of the 'Signature' men's line, DKNY for men was introduced.
In 1992: The "cold shoulder" dress by Karan was also made available; it was a jersey long-sleeved dress with deep cutouts at the shoulders that displayed the skin beneath.
In 1997: Karan stepped down as Donna Karan's CEO, but continued to oversee the company's design and chairwoman roles.
Achievements and Awards:
In 1977: She got the Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award.
In 1994: Karan received the American Academy of Achievement's Golden Plate Award.
