Douglas Jerome Preston was born on May 31, 1956, and is an American journalist and author. A Disney movie was made of Jennie, one of his solo novels. He is best known for his thrillers with Lincoln Child (such as the Agent Pendergast series and the Gideon Crew series). He has written half a dozen nonfiction books on science and exploration and occasionally writes for The New Yorker and Smithsonian.

1978 to 1985: Douglas Preston worked as a writer, editor, and publications manager for the American Museum of Natural History from 1978 to 1985. The journal Curator was his managing editor, and Natural History magazine was his column.
