Kristen was born in 1976 in Pennsylvania. Kristen was a Philadelphia native. For school she attended Germantown Friends, and later gained her Bachelor’s Degree in American History at Harvard University.

Kristen began her journalism career as a researcher for NBC Nightly News and Today in the 1990s.

The 2000s: Kristen worked as a reporter for WLNE-TV and KRCR-TV, both in Providence, Rhode Island.

In 2010, Kristen joined NBC News as a correspondent based in Burbank, California. She covered various topics, including politics, breaking news, and human-interest stories. 

In 2011: Kristen became a White House correspondent for NBC News, covering the Obama administration. 

In 2019, Welker was named co-anchor of "Weekend Today."

In 2020: As the second Black woman to moderate a presidential debate in America, Kristen presided over the final presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
