Johnnie L Cochran, a well-known American lawyer, was born in Louisiana. During the second wave of the "Great Migration," his family moved to the West Coast along with millions of other African-American families, settling in Los Angeles in 1949. Since he came from a wealthy family who valued independence, education, and lack of prejudice, Cochran attended public schools and did exceptionally well in his coursework. He graduated first in his class from the high school in 1955 and was one of about two dozen African-American students who attended the "Los Angeles High School" at the time.
Career:
Johnnie decided to pursue law after being motivated by Thurgood Marshall and his legendary victory in the "Brown v. Board of Education" case.
Lenny Bruce was arrested in 1964 on obscenity-related charges. After a few years, Cochran joined Gerald Lenoir in private practice until he eventually founded his own company, Cochran, Atkins & Evans, in Los Angeles.
From 1960 to 1977, Johnnie married Barbara Berry Cochran; from 1985 to 2005, to Sylvia Dale. Tiffany and Melodie, from his first marriage, and Jonathan, from a previous relationship, were his three children. In December 2003, a brain tumor was discovered, and he underwent surgery in April 2004
Achievements and Awards:
On April 4, Johnnie's coffin was kept in the "Angelus Funeral Home," On April 5, it was shown for public viewing at the "Second Baptist Church" in Los Angeles.
Johnnie represented the widow of African-American Leonard Deadwyler, who the LAPD killed in May 1966.
