Shirley Lynn Phelps-Roper, born on October 31, 1957, is an American political activist and lawyer from Topeka, Kansas. She was the face and voice of the Westboro Baptist Church for quite some time. The main point of this church is to spread hatred towards homosexuality under a campaign they have labeled “God Hates Fags”. Eventually she lost her standing due to a power struggle internally.

• In 1964, Phelps-Roper was an attorney practicing law at Phelps-Chartered Co., her father’s law firm created back.
• She gained notoriety in 2006 for her appearance on Hannity & Colmes, a Fox News show. Alan Colmes invited her after the West Nickel Mines School tragedy occurred.
• In Feb 2008, In DeKalb, Illinois, she made a public appearance to picket memorials dedicated to victims from the Northern Illinois University shooting.
• Her and family members also protested funerals for AIDS victims gaining the attention of the public eye.
