Thomas Alan Waits, a known musician, was born on December 7, 1949. Besides being an actor, Thomas Alan Waits is also a composer, songwriter, and musician. With his trademark deep, gravelly voice, he often delivers lyrics that focus on society's underbelly. As a jazz musician in the 1970s, but a blues, rock, vaudeville, and experimental musician in the 1980s, his music reflected a greater influence of these genres.

In National City, California, waiters worked at Napoleone's pizza restaurant.
The Heritage coffeehouse featured regular performances by folk musicians, and he occasionally worked as a doorman in 1969.
Waits caught Cohen's attention at the Troubadour in West Hollywood in the autumn 1971.
After performing at the Troubadour, Waits was signed by David Geffen's Asylum Records to record.
As a supporting act for more established artists, Waits toured the U.S. with a three-piece band.
He performed throughout the West Coast until he reached Denver in 1974.
