Benjamin Harrison, a well-known  President of the United States, was born in Ohio. After graduating from Miami University in Ohio, Harrison went on to the University of Cincinnati to study law. As a Republican who first entered politics, he served in the US Senator from 1881 to 1887. He became the first president from Indianapolis after barely defeating Grover Cleveland in the 1888 presidential election.

Benjamin Harrison Presidency:

Harrison approved the Sherman Antitrust Law, which was intended to reduce monopolies, and backed high tariffs to defend American industry throughout his presidency.

Harrison supported the creation of national forests as well as the enlargement of the fleet. Additionally, Harrison promoted African American educational possibilities and approved the 1890 Morrill Agreement, which provided money for land-grant universities.

Harrison was also in charge of the union's expansion to include North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Washington. Additionally, he dispatched troops to put an end to the Ghost Dance organization, a Western Native American religious practise.

Despite his successes, Harrison lost the 1892 election to Grover Cleveland and was not re-elected. He went back to his legal firm after leaving office and continued to be involved in Republican politics. At the age of 67, he passed away on March 13, 1901.
