Jimmy Chin is a professional mountain climber, photographer, director, and writer from the United States. Chin has spent more than 20 years as a professional mountaineer and skier on The North Face Athlete squad. All seven continents have been visited by him, and he has led and been included in expeditions all over the world, amassing a list of legendary climbing and ski mountaineering accomplishments. Together with Kit and Rob DesLauriers, he accomplished the first successful American ski rappel from the top of Mount Everest in 2006. Five years later, on India's Meru Peak, Chin, Conrad Anker, and Renan Ozturk made the first climb of the granite cliff known as "Shark's Fin."
Career:
In 2002: He was invited to be a part of an unsupported National Geographic expedition crossing Tibet's Chang Tang Plateau with Galen Rowell, Conrad Anker, and Rick Ridgeway.
In 2003: Chin began filming with Rick Ridgeway as his mentor.
In 2004: Chin scaled Mount Everest alongside David Breashears and Ed Viesturs while Stephen Daldry was making a feature film for Working Title.
In 2006: Together with Kit DesLauriers and Rob DesLauriers, he skied down Mount Everest for the first time in American history.
In 2017: During their explorations in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica, Chin and Anker discovered a new route on Ulvetanna, the Wolf's Fang.
