Bajrang Punia is a freestyle wrestler from India who participates in the 65 kg weight division. Punia defeated Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0 to take home the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Punia is the only wrestler from India to have taken three medals from the World Championships. When he was seven years old, he started wrestling, and his father pushed him to continue. Punia was raised in the country. He lacked the resources for conventional sports due to his family's financial situation. Instead of participating in free sports like Kabaddi and wrestling, he was forced to play free sports such as Kabaddi.
Career:
In 2013: He won the bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships in the men's freestyle 60 kg category
In 2014: Bajrang lost 1-4 to Canadian David Tremblay, but still managed to win the silver medal in the men's amateur 61 kg division.
In 2017: His gold medal was earned at the Asian Wrestling Championship in Delhi.
In 2018: Bajrang got the gold medal in the 65 kg men's freestyle.
In 2022: During the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Bajrang Punia won the gold medal in the 65kg final bout against Canada's Lachlan McNeil.
