Cathy Freeman was born on 16 February 1973. She is an Aboriginal Australian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter event. Her best is 48.63 seconds, set at the 1996 Olympics when she finished second to Marie-José Pérec's fourth-fastest time. Her Olympic victory in the women's 400-metremeter event at the Summer Olympics of 2000 sparked the Olympic flame.

• Cathy Freeman took a break from running in 1998 due to injury. Her return from injury was marked by a first-place finish in the 400 m event at the 1999 World Championships. Her athletic career came to an end in 2003.
• Cathy Freeman founded the Community Spirit Foundation in 2007, now known as the Cathy Freeman Foundation.
• Cathy Freeman was awarded a scholarship to Fairholme College in Toowoomba in 1988. In 1989, Freeman ran 11.67 seconds in the 100 meters, and Danila began considering entering her for the Commonwealth Games Trials.
• Cathy Freeman has become involved in many community and charitable activities since retiring from athletics. Her role at the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) ended in 2012.
• Cathy Freeman joined superstar chef Curtis Stone and big-wave surfer Jeff Rowley as Ambassadors for Cottage by the Sea (a children's holiday camp in Queenscliffe, Victoria). In 2014, Freeman retired from her position as Patron after 10 years.
