India's Sakshi Malik competes in freestyle wrestling. She became the first Indian woman wrestler to win the bronze medal in the 58 kg division at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is a part of the JSW Sports Excellence Programme together with fellow female wrestlers Babita Kumari, Vinesh Phogat, and Geeta Phogat. Malik previously won the bronze and silver medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2015 Asian Wrestling Championships in Doha.
Career:
In 2010: Malik achieved her first professional victory in the international ring when she earned the bronze medal in the 58 kg freestyle competition in 2010 at the Junior World Championships.
In 2014: Malik won her opening match at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games against Cameroonian Edwige Ngono Eyia by a score of 4-0.
In 2015: Malik competed in the 60 kg division over the course of five rounds at the 2015 Asian Championships in Doha, Qatar, and persevered through two of them to place third and win the bronze medal.
In 2017: Sakshi Malik competed for the "Colors Delhi Sultans" in the second Pro Wrestling League season.
In 2022: She won the gold medal at 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
