India's Vinesh Phogat is a wrestler. She became the first Indian woman to win gold in wrestling at the Asian and Commonwealth Games. Phogat made history in 2019 by being the first Indian athlete to be shortlisted for a Laureus World Sports Award. Phogat's cousins compete internationally and have won medals at the Olympics in addition to winning medals at the Commonwealth Games. Vinesh is the daughter of wrestler Rajpal Phogat and the cousin of wrestlers Geetha and Babita. At the 55 kg division of the Commonwealth Games, two of her cousins took home gold.
Career:
In 2014: Vinesh won the gold medal while competing for India in the women's freestyle 48 kg division at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In 2018: During the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Vinesh Phogat won gold in freestyle wrestling for women over 50 kg.
In 2019: She won her first medal at world championship (Bronze).
In 2020: Phogat defeated Luisa Elizabeth Valverde (4-0) for gold in Rome Ranking Series.
In 2022: During the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, she won gold in the 53 kg event for women.

In 2016: She got the Arjuna Award.
In 2018: Phogat was honored with the Padma Shri.
In 2020: She was presented with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, India's highest sports honor.

She is the second female wrestler in Indian history, after Sakshi Malik, to receive the Khel Ratna, and the fifth overall.
