Susan Elizabeth George was born on February 26, 1949. A mystery writer from the United States, she is known for her British-set novels. One of her most popular series features Inspector Thomas Lynley. Among the 21 books in the series, the 21st appeared in January 2022. Earlier episodes of The Inspector Lynley Mysteries were adapted for television by the BBC.

After graduating from the University of California, Riverside, with a degree in English, she obtained a teaching certificate.
A master's degree in counseling and psychology was earned while she taught English in the public school system.
