Hinton, who was born on July 22, 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, began writing at the age of 15. The author is renowned for her ability to capture teenage angst and social problems so well in her novels.

S. E. Hinton Career:
S.E. Hinton started writing "The Outsiders" when she was just 15 years old. It has sold over 14 million copies since then! 
Viking Press stated that in 2017, it sold over 500,000 copies a year.
Hinton is a boss author who's written a bunch of other young adult novels like "That Was Then, This Is Now" and "Rumble Fish." 
Her books even got turned into movies, and she's done some screenwriting herself.
Hinton was so involved in the movie adaptations that she acted as a location scout and even had some cameo roles in three out of four films.
