Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al-Hussaini Azad was born in 1888. He was a prominent member of the Indian National Congress, an activist for Indian independence, a novelist, and a theologian of Islam. He was appointed First Minister of Education in the Indian government after India attained independence.
