Gloria Marie Steinem is an American journalist and social-political activist who became a recognized leader of second-wave feminism in the United States in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She co-founded Ms. magazine, the National Women's Political Caucus, and the Women's Action Alliance. Steinem also helped establish Take Our Daughters to Work Day and co-founded the Women's Media Center. Steinem was born on March 25, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio, and her parents separated when she was ten. Her paternal grandmother was a leader in the women's suffrage movement.
