Joy Harjo is a Muscogee (Creek) poet, musician, and author. She was born on May 9, 1951, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has written several books of poetry, including "An American Sunrise," which was a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award for Poetry, and "Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings," which won the American Book Award in 2016. In 2019, Harjo was appointed as the first Native American Poet Laureate of the United States.
